經典雙語故事：上好的石頭
Sometime after Paul died, his widow, Lily, was finally able to speak about what athoughtful and wonderful man her late husband had been.
"Paul thought of everything," she told her friends. Just before he died, Paul handed me three envelopes. 'Lily,' he told me, 'I have put all my last wishes in these three envelopes. After I am dead, please open them and do exactly that I have instructed. Then, I can rest in peace.'"
"What was in the envelopes?" her friends asks.
"The first envelope contained $5000 with a note, 'please use this money to buy a nice casket.' So I bought a beautiful mahogany(桃花心木) casket with such a comfortable lining that I know Paul is resting comfortably.”
"The second envelope contained $10000 with a note, 'Please use this for a nice funeral.' I arranged Paul a vey dignified funeral and bought all his favorite food for everyone attending."
"And the third envelope?" asked her friends.
"The third envelope contained $30000 with a note, 'Please use this to buy a nice stone.'"
Holding her hand in the air, Lily said, "So, do you like my stone?" showing off her 10 carat diamond ring.
保羅死後過了一段時間，遺孀莉莉最終覺得是時候跟大夥說說她的丈夫多麼體貼多麼好。

“第三個信封呢?”朋友們追問。
“第三個信封裏有3萬美金和一張條，‘請用這些錢買一塊上好的石頭(指墓碑)’”
莉莉舉起手來說：“看，這塊石頭好看嗎?”莉邊說邊秀着她十克拉的鑽戒。
經典雙語故事：赫拉克勒斯和財神
When Hercules was received among the gods and was entertained at a banquet by Jupiter, he responded courteously to the greetings of all with the exception of Plutus, the god of wealth. When Plutus approached him, he cast his eyes upon the ground, and turned away and pretended not to see him. Jupiter was surprised at this conduct on his part, and asked why, after having been so cordial(熱忱的) with all the other gods, he had behaved like that to Plutus. "Sire," said Hercules, "I do not like Plutus, and I will tell you why. When we were on earth together I always noticed that he was to be found in the company of scoundrels(惡棍，無賴)."
赫拉克勒斯被衆神接納爲神以後，朱庇特爲他設宴慶賀。宴會上，赫拉克勒斯熱情友好地向衆神一一問好，唯獨財神普羅託斯除外。當財神向他走去時，他卻低下頭盯着地面看，然後轉身走開了，假裝沒有看到他。朱庇特看到他的舉動十分驚訝，便問他爲什麼與其他神都能高興地打招呼，唯獨對財神普羅託斯卻另眼相看。赫拉克勒斯回答說：“陛下，我不喜歡財神普羅託斯，我會告訴您原因的。當我們倆都在人間時，總會見到他與壞人在一起。”
