經典三國故事閱讀：馬躍檀溪

Liu Bei captured an excellent horse in a battle. When Liu Biao marveled at the steed(戰馬，駿馬) , Liu Bei gave it to him as a gift. Under Liu Biao, there was a horse expert who said, "This horse, though excellent, tends to harm its owner; you'd better return it to Liu Bei." Following the expert's advice, Liu Biao returned the horse to Liu Bei.

Liu Biao's wife Cai and her brother had long wished to Xiangyang to meet some officials. Cai and her brother decided it was an good opportunity. They sent troops to guard every city gate except the western one, for outside that gate, the wide Tanxi River, with its rapid water, blocked the road. At the banquet for officials, a man hinted to Liu Bei that Liu Biao planned to kill him. Liu Bei followed the man to the back garden, where he whispered into his ear the details of plan Cai and her brother had set. "Every gate but the western one is heavily guarded," the man added. "The western gate is your only chance." Alarmed, Liu Bei mounted the horse and fled. Outside the gate the river blocked his way. Soldiers were fast approaching. Liu Bei whipped the horse like mad, the animal moved forward, but after just a few steps into the river it stumbled(躊躇，蹣跚). "Surely you harm your master," Liu Bei cried in despair. At this, oddly, the horse made a vigorous leap to the other side of the river, leaving the soldiers behind.

有次打仗，劉備繳獲一匹名叫"的盧"的千里馬。荊州刺史劉表看後禁不住連聲稱讚。劉備見劉表如此喜歡，將此馬送給了劉表。劉表手下有一人頗懂相馬術，言此馬有妨主之相，勸劉表將馬還給劉備。劉表的夫人蔡氏和其兄蔡瑁早有殺害劉備之心。一次，劉表請劉備代替他到襄陽去會見百官，蔡氏兄妹覺得這是殺害劉備的好機會。該城西門外有一條檀溪河，河寬水急，不易通過。蔡氏兄妹在東、南、北門派重兵把守，只留西門，等待下手。席間，一個叫伊籍的人來到劉備面前暗示，劉備假借更衣來到了後花園，伊籍附耳告訴劉備："蔡瑁設計害你，已在東南北三個門派人把守，你只能出西門，快逃!"劉備大驚，策馬跑出西門，行數裏被檀溪河阻住去路，這時追兵趕來，劉備急打馬過溪，沒走幾步，馬失前蹄。劉備大呼："的盧，的盧，今日果然害我!"話音剛落，只見馬從水中一躍數丈，飛身上了西岸，擺脫了追兵。

　經典三國故事閱讀：夜戰馬超

This is a story from Three Kingdoms. Zhang Lu ordered Ma Chao to attack Jiameng Pass. Learning this, Liu Bei immediately went to his military advisor Zhuge Liang for ideas. Zhuge Liang said, "Mao Chao is so brave that only Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun can match him. But Zhao Yun is not available, only Zhang Fei is around at the moment."

Knowing that Ma Chao was attacking the pass, Zhang Fei came to ask for a fight against him. Pretending not to hear, Zhuge Liang said to Liu Bei, "Ma Chao is attacking, and only Zhao Yun can defeat him." Feeling snubbed(冷落) , Zhang Fei noted his past merits and shouted, "If I can not defeat Ma Chao, I am willing to be punished according the rule." Only then did Zhuge Liang nod his agreement. Liu Bei himself acted as the chief commander and ordered Zhang Fei to fight in the vanguard(先鋒) . Liu Bei led the army to the pass. Time and again Ma Chao challenged them to fight. At every challenge, Zhang Fei wanted to engage him, but was stopped by Liu Bei. When Liu Bei saw Ma Chao and his army became fatigued, he ordered Zhang Fei to take on the challenge. Zhang Fei and Ma Chao fought one hundred rounds with an even hand. When Liu Bei saw that it was turning dark, he asked Zhang Fei to come back for a fight tomorrow. But Zhang Fei became infuriated(激怒的) and shouted, "Light more torches and get ready for a night fight. I will not return to the pass without defeating Ma Chao!" Ma Chao also pledged that he would not return to his camp without winning over Zhang Fei. Each of them mounted fresh horses to start the night fight. After another twenty rounds, Ma Chao saw that he could not win by force, so he had an idea. He pretended to flee. At the moment, Zhuge Liang arrived. He analyzed Ma Chao's situation and laid a trap for him. With Ma Chao in a fight spot, Zhuge Liang sent someone who succeeded in persuading him to fight for Liu Bei.

劉備(字玄德)攻下雒城，進兵成都。劉璋與張魯結盟，張魯派西涼名將馬超(字孟起)前來救西川，猛攻葭萌關。諸葛亮(字孔明)智激張飛(字翼德)領兵增援。在葭萌關前，張飛與馬超大戰，二人越戰越勇，從下午一直戰到天黑。張飛殺得性起，哪裏肯休?二人叫板夜戰，兩軍吶喊，點起千百火把，照耀如同白日。兩將又向陣前鏖戰數百回合仍不分勝負。後，軍師孔明用反間之計收降馬超。馬超降蜀後屢建戰功，與張飛二人同列於“五虎上將”。

經典三國故事閱讀：張飛賠罪

At Cao Cao's instruction, Liu Bei was about to set off for a punitive(懲罰的) expedition against Yuan Shu. Before he left, Liu Bei worried about the defence of Xuzhou City. When Zhang Fei volunteered to take the task, Liu said, "How can I feel assured, when you're so fond of drinking and after drinking you always flog(鞭打) your soldiers for no reason. And you're such a hot-tempered person and frequently you refuse to take advice." He entrusted the task upon Zhang only after the latter's repeated entreatments and resolutions to mend his ways. For safety, he left consultant Chen Deng to assist Zhang.

One day Zhang invited his subordinate officers over. "My elder brother instructed me before he left to stay away from wine for fear I may fail my duties to guard the city. Let's have an final drinking party today, and starting from tomorrow, we will quit drinking and concentrate on the job." With these words said, he began toasting everyone.

When neither of his toasts was accepted by Cao Bao, Zhang flared up. By then , Zhang was already drunk. He had Cao flogged fifty times. After the party was over, the resentful Cao sent one of his men to Lv Bu, the enemy general, asking him to attack the city that night while Zhang was drunk.

Lv came with 500 horsemen. They successfully took the city. When Zhang woke up with a start, the city was gone. He fought his way out of the enemy troops and fled the city, leaving his elder brother's family behind. When he met Liu, he felt so shame-faced that he unsheathed(拔出鞘) his sword meaning to commit suicide, only to be stopped by his elder brother.

曹操命劉備伐袁術，劉備臨行時爲由誰留守徐州拿不定主意。這時，張飛請求留守徐州。劉備卻說："你一是愛喝酒、耍威風、鞭打士兵，二是辦事草率不聽人勸。讓你留守，放心不下。"張飛願改過並再三請求，劉備答應張飛，並派陳登協助。一日，張飛請留守各將赴宴，說："我大哥臨走時不讓我喝酒，怕酒後誤事，今天請你們來一醉方休，從明天起全都戒酒，幫我守好城池。"說罷便輪番敬酒，當二次到曹豹面前勸酒時，遭曹豹拒絕。這時張飛已醉，命鞭打曹豹五十鞭。散席後，曹豹懷恨在心，便連夜派人送信給呂布，讓他今夜乘張飛大醉偷襲徐州。

呂布當夜領五百輕騎取得徐州。吶喊聲震醒張飛，知徐州已失，顧不得劉備的家眷，邊戰邊逃。後張飛見到劉備，悔恨萬分，欲抽劍自刎，被劉備死死攔住。
