中國的新一代富豪是:高校中的科學家們!

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called upon the country's best and brightest to make more breakthroughs in science and technology, with billions of yuan being pumped into higher education.

中國國家主席習近平號召中國最傑出的優秀人才，要在科學技術領域做出更多突破，爲此，數十億元的資金投入到了高等教育中去。

Now, it seems that an increasing amount of that money is going into scientists' pockets. According to a new report by South China Morning Post, the ranks of millionaire scientists in China are growing rapidly.

而現在看起來，越來越大數額的錢進入了科學家們的腰包裏。根據南華早報的一份最新報告顯示，中國身價百萬的科學家的數量正在迅速增長。

A survey published in the scientific journal Nature concluded that university scientists in China made on average $40,000 a year in 2010, while their counterparts in the U.S. made double that amount. Now, the gap is vanishing.

一項發表在科學雜誌《自然》上面的文章總結稱，中國高校的科學家在2010年的人均收入是4萬美元，而在美國，科學家的收入要多一倍，但是，現在差距正在變得越來越小。

"In major cities, more and more Chinese scientists are making as much as they can for the same position in the U.S.," a senior life scientist at Tsinghua University in Beijing told the SCMP.

北京清華大學的一名高級生命科學家接受南華早報採訪時表示：“在中國各大主要城市，越來越多的中國科學家的收入已經和美國科學家持平了。”

Chinese professors with overseas experience get an average starting salary of about $120,000 a year, it added. Additionally, some university researchers can get a $100,000 bonus for each paper published by top academic journals.

南華早報補充稱，有海外留學經驗的中國教授起薪是每年12萬美元。此外，在一些高校，如果論文發表在頂級學術期刊中，研究者還可獲得10萬美元左右的獎金。

There's also commercial potential in the scientists' research. A professor at Wuhan Institute of Technology in Hubei reportedly earned $2 million from selling ceramic coating technology to a company last year.

而一些科學家的研究中還有很多商業價值。據報道，武漢科技大學的一名教授在去年就通過出售陶瓷塗層技術獲得了200萬美元的收益。

These top earning scientists have, however, come under fire, with critics questioning whether their heart truly lay in science – or in their paychecks.

不過，這些頂級科學家還是受到了批評，很多批評者質疑他們是在專心做科研，還是在賺錢。
