社區藝術
Tanya's school held an art competition. Thecompetition was to design an art project using thetheme “community”. The person that won wouldreceive funding to make their art piece.
譚雅的學校舉辦一場美術比賽，比賽是以“社區”爲主題設計一個藝術專案，獲勝者可以獲得一筆資金來創作該藝術作品。
Tanya left school and walked home with her minddeep in thought about the project. On the way home, she saw an elderly man in torn oldclothes removing some things from the garbage. Tanya saw the man's cart was full oftreasures that he had found in the garbage.
譚雅放學回家時，心想着參展的事，她在路上看到一個衣衫襤褸的拾荒老人，他的推車滿載着他從垃圾堆找到的寶物。
She knew the man was homeless. Tanya's mind went back to her school project. Suddenly, shehad an idea. She ran the rest of the way home, excited to get on the computer and start typingout her idea. The following morning she walked up to the teacher and handed in her proposal.
譚雅知道這個人無家可歸，她回頭想參展的事，突然靈光一現，她跑回家，興奮地打開電腦，開始把想法鍵入電腦，隔天早上她把提案交給老師。

安娜長大後，一直是一個成功的實業家，擁有幾家獲利的公司。雖然她是這麼的成功，安娜有一個只有她丈夫才曉得的祕密，那就是她不識字。
She hides her secret by spending her days pretending to be too busy to take care of things likework contracts and the mail. Tired, she comes home at night and asks her husband to help hersort through the day's paperwork. Not being able to read has made life difficult. Anna knew thatfor her to be the best she could be, she needed to confront her problem and learn to read.
她每天假裝很忙沒有時間處理合約和回信一類的事務，來隱瞞這個祕密。。晚上回家後，她疲倦地拜託丈夫幫她整理一天下來的文書工作。不識字讓生活變得很困難，安娜知道自己要想成爲人上人，就必須面對困難，學習識字。
She told her closest friends and employees that she was illiterate. Fearing she would beridiculed, she was surprised and comforted when she received nothing but support. Anna founda tutor and began her studies. With hard work and determination, she learned to read.
她告訴最親密的朋友和員工她是文盲，害怕會被嘲笑，但令她驚訝與欣慰的是，沒人這樣做，大家都很支持她。安娜找了個家教，開始學習，憑着努力和決心，她學會識字。
She recently received an award given to small businesses that have triumphed over than just a successful businesswoman, Anna is also a mentor for people who strugglewith illiteracy!
她最近獲得一項頒給在逆境中成功小型企業獎。安娜不僅是成功的實業家，也是許多想擺脫文盲的人的精神象徵。
四年級英語故事短文：鈍了的斧子Jon likes his job and he used to be quite good at it. In fact, ten years ago when he began working at T&T, he was considered one of the best in the company. However, over the past few years Jon's performance at work has been slipping. Jon got more and more frustrated as his friends progressed and he didn't.
強熱愛工作，他曾經是這一行的高手，事實上，十年前他開始在T&T 工作時，他被認爲是公司的頂尖高手。可是過去幾年來，強的工作表現往下滑落。看着他的朋友突飛猛進，自己卻一點長進也沒有，強越來越沮喪。
Finally, one day Jon asked a friend for some advice. “I don't understand. I try so hard but I can't get up in the company.”
最後有一天，強向一位朋友尋求忠告，“我不懂，我這麼努力，在公司卻沒辦法上升。”
His friend looked serious and asked, “When was the last time you sharpened your axe?”
他的朋友表情認真地問，“你上次磨利斧頭是什麼時候的事?”
Jon looked at his friend as though he was crazy and said, “What are you talking about?”
強看着朋友的表情好像他是瘋子，並說，“你在說什麼?”
His friend replied, “When was the last time you took courses to upgrade your skills? You work in a competitive industry. If you don't update your skills, you will fall behind.”
朋友回答，“你上次什麼時候去上課提升你的技術?你在競爭的產業裏工作，如果你不更新你的技術，就會落後。”
Jon felt silly and laughed “I have spent all of my time trying to cut trees with a dull axe. All I needed to do was sharpen it!”
強覺得自己很傻，大笑，“原來我一直在拿一把鈍掉的斧頭砍樹木，卻忘了需要磨利它!”
