　　成語投鼠忌器

there is a story in "Hanshu" telling of a rich man, who being a lover of s and had a large collection. Among them was a rare vase made of jade. The vase of exquisite workmanship and of historical value and he loved it dearly. One night he noticed a mouse passing near the precious vase. The mouse jumped into the vase and was trying to eat some food which the man had carelessly left there. The sigh infuriated the man and in a fit of rage he threw a stone at the mouse.

《漢書》中有這麼個故事：有個富人，很喜歡古董並收藏了很多。其中有一件稀有的玉盂，工藝精湛，具有很高的歷史價值，深受這個富人的喜愛。一天晚上，一隻老鼠跳進了這個玉盂，想去吃裏邊的一些剩菜，正巧被這個富人看到了。他非常惱火，盛怒之下，他拿了塊石頭砸向老鼠。

For sure, the mouse was killed, but the precious vase was broken also. The loss of the vase pained the man GREatly and he deeply regretted his own thoughtlessness, which bought him this unrecoverable loss. He now realized that any one, who cares for the present and overlooks consequences is apt to bring disasters upon himself. So he exclaimed to warn people by saying do not burn you house to get rid of a mouse.

當然，老鼠是被砸死了，可是那個珍貴的玉盂也被打破了。這件事使富人非常難過，他深深後悔自己的魯莽帶來的不可挽回的損失。他認識到只考慮眼前，而忽視後果，將給自己帶來災難。他向世人發出警告，不要爲了除掉一隻老鼠而燒燬自己的房子。

Two Little Monkeys

The monkey mother has two little monkeys. She likes the younger, not the other. One day, they were playing in a forest when a wolf came running at them. The monkey ran away with the younger monkey in a hurry and left the older alone. She climbed up a tree and held the younger in her arms.

After some time, the wolf went away slowly. The monkey took the baby out of her arms. She was surprised to see that the baby had died, for the baby was held in arms too highly. Very long time later, she remembered to look for the older baby. The older baby was hiding in a wood. So he saved himself.

　　兩隻猴子

猴媽媽生了兩個猴子。她喜歡小猴子而不喜歡打的。一天，他們正在森林裏玩的時候，一隻狼來了並向他們撲去。猴子匆忙帶着小猴子跑了，單獨留下打猴子。她跑着小猴子爬到樹上。

過些時候，狼慢慢地離開了。母猴從他的懷裏放下小猴子。她吃驚的發現猴寶寶已經死了，因爲小猴子在她的懷裏被摟地太緊了。過了很長時間，她纔想起去尋找那隻大猴子。大猴子藏在一個大洞裏，他救了自己。

　　愚蠢膽小的懦夫

Juan Shuliang, who lived in Xiashui district, was a foolish and craven coward.

居住在夏水地區的涓蜀樑是一個既愚蠢又膽小的懦夫。

One day, he was hurrying on his journey in the moonlight when he lowered his head and saw his own shadow behind him, he thought it was a evil ghost crouching on the ground and got very nervous when he lifted his head, he saw his own hair and thought it was a ghost standing there.

他在月光底下趕夜路,偶爾一低頭,看見月光下自己身後的影子,以爲是一個趴在底下的惡鬼,心裏立刻就緊張起來;當他仰頭的時候,看見自己的頭髮,又以爲遇見了一個站着的魔鬼。

Believing that there were two ghosts following him Juan Shuliang was scared out of wits and started to run. He ran wildly without stopping. Just upon arriving home, Juan Shuliang died from scare and weariness.

想到兩個鬼跟着自己,涓蜀樑嚇得魂飛魄散,轉身就跑,由於一路狂奔不止,剛剛回到家裏,涓蜀樑就因連嚇帶累,氣絕身亡。
