面對面：face的用法精析

一、下面我們來看看face有幾種含義

1.臉，面孔；面容，面部表情 the front part of the head between the forehead and the chin

2.外表，外貌 facial expression
A fair face is half a portion.
美貌等於一半嫁妝。
3.表面，正面 outward appearance

4.面子，威嚴 assurance, confidence

二、以下的單詞也能表示face的意思：
, appearance, aspect, countenance, feature, look, visage
這組詞都有“臉”“面貌”的意思。其區別在於：
face 意義廣泛，可指人或動物的臉，也可指面部表情，還可指事物的外表等。
feature 僅涉及耳口鼻等五官時只用單數形式，指整個容顏、面貌時則須用複數形式。
countenance 意思是“面容，面色”，有明顯的感情色彩。
visage 指人或物的面貌、外表。主要用於書面語、文學語言中。
aspect 多用於文學作品中，用於人時，指某人所特有的外貌，用於物時，指某事物給人造成的特殊印象。
appearance 只表示對人或事物的外表進行客觀的記敘，強調整體外貌。
look 是普通用詞，用單數時表示臉色、神色、外表；用複數時，純指面容，一般用在口語中。
, encounter, confront, face, contact
這些動詞均有“遇見，會見，碰見”之意。
meet普通用詞，本義指雙方或多方從不同方向或相反方向作向對運動，最終相碰(遇)。
encounter通常指遇到困難或挫折，也指偶然或意外地相遇。
confront 不可避免的，面對面的相遇。也指敢於正視困難或問題的決心和信心。
face側重雙方靜止地面對面，或指指充滿勇氣、信心和決心正視人或事。
contact多指通過書信、電話或直接會面和別人聯繫。口語用詞。
arance, look, face, aspect
這些名詞均含事物或人的“外表，容貌”之意。
appearance普通用詞，着重由總體產生的印象。
look普通用詞，多用複數，可與
appearance換用，但較口語化。
face側重指容貌。
aspect書面用詞，突出人或事物在某特定時間或地點時的外貌。
