Mo Yan Won the Nobel Prize for Literature

Mo Yan, whoseprimitive name is Guan Moye, has been the crispy fried chicken among Chinaafter he was awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize for literature. The 57-year-old isthe first Chinese resident to win the prize, who is a novelist and a shortstory writer, born on 17thFebruary 1955, in Gaomi County, ShandongProvince which becomes a tourist attraction because of his popularity. For hisaward, Chinese media overwhelming report this exciting news. As a result, tensof thousands of people jump out and say that Mo Yan is their most favoritewriter, although some of them did not know who Mo Yan is. Moreover, Mo Yan’snovels are put in the best seller bookshelf in the bookstores and some are evenout of stock.

As a famouscontemporary Chinese writer, Mo Yan is a prolific author, having published dozensof short stories, most of which are related to the countryside that full filledof complex emotion of nostalgia and complain. His works are deeply impacted bythe magic realism that he creates unique subject feeling world by fantasticalnarration in his novels, bring his works the color of “Pioneer”. The SwedishAcademy praised his work which "with hallucinatory realism merges folktales, history and the contemporary". The Swedish Academy praised his workwhich "with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and thecontemporary". Some people may not know who Mo Yan is before, but theymust know some of his works. For example, a famous film directed by Zhang Yimouthat won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1988 was adapted fromhis novel Red Sorghum which was a tale of the brutal violence in the easternChina countryside, where he grew up, during the 1920s and 1930s.

Generallyspeaking, his awarded means a lot to China, especially Chinese literature. TheNobel Prize for literature is a dream of Chinese literary field and all Chinesepeople. However, as a large cultural country that owns countless classic works,China had no winner of the Nobel Prize for literature which had become a greatpity. Therefore, this prize finishes a pile wish of Chines people. In addition, although we have a great number of great works, very few people are willing reada book carefully and tranquilly in the impetuous society. I think this excitingnews will renew people’s enthusiasm towards literature, which is a greatmotivation to the development of literature. This is what we are happy to see.
