That evening, he returned with a sad look: the cloak had a hold burnt in unately it was evening and the grandmother and the ladies in the house failed to servant hurriedly brought the cloak out to professionals to be mended over night, for Baoyuhad to wear the cloak the next morning. But the servant returned to report that no craftsmandared to take the job, as none of them was able to identify what material the cloak was madeof. While everyone was upset, Qing Wen managed to sit up from her sick bed, and after a lookshe claimed the material was peacock gold threads." she said, "the cloak will look as good asnew." Even with the proper thread， no one dared to take the job. Therefore, Qing Wen, with acoat draped over her shoulders, began to mend. Due to sickness, she felt dizzy and saw bit her lips and continued. She had to stop for a bread every few stitches. It was in thesmall hours of the morning when she finally finished the job. People marveled at the mendingshe had done-the damage was almost invisible.

寶玉的大丫頭襲人回孃家，怡紅院諸事交丫鬟晴雯料理。晴雯事事要強，帶重病操持寶玉的一切。寶玉爲舅舅過生日，特穿上賈母送他的一件俄羅斯人用孔雀毛線織成的毛氅去赴宴。但晚上回來後，只見寶玉唉聲嘆氣，一問才知毛氅燒了一個洞，幸好天黑，家母和太太們都沒有看到。丫頭連夜叫嬤嬤拿了出去補，讓天亮前補好，因爲明天還得穿。嬤嬤們去了半天回來說："工匠們不認識這是什麼，不敢攬這活。"大家都很着急。因病臥牀的晴雯，聽說此事，忙硬挺着身子坐起來，拿過來一瞧說："這是孔雀金線，咱們用孔雀金線織密點，就能混過去。"雖有孔雀金線，大家都說不會織。晴雯只好披衣，但因身子虛，剛要動手，覺得頭重腳輕，眼前冒金星，又怕寶玉着急，只好咬牙拼命撐着，逢幾針，歇一會，一直到後半夜才補完。大家拿過來一看，簡直和原來的一模一樣。

On a business trip inthe capital， Jia Lian chanced to meet Liu. Jia told Liu of the Third Sister's wish. Liu aired hiswillingness on the spot. He asken Jia to give his mandarin duck sword to the girl as a tokenof his betrothal. Feeling assured of her marriage and future， every day the girl looked severaltimes affectionately at the sword she had hung by her bed. A few months later， Liu he saw the girl's beautiful looks， he grew suspicious of her virtue."The men in the Jiafamily are all promiscuous，" he thought."Why would this girl fall in love with me when sheand I have never met?" He stepped back on the betrothal on a pretext that his aunt hadbetrothed him to sombody else and he came to retrieve his sword. Third sister knew what wason his mind. Heart bleeding， she took the sword from the wall， unsheathed it andcommitted suicide before Liu， an act to show her virtue and unyieldingness. The regretfulyoung man cried bitterly over her corpse. He spent the rest of his life as a priest in a Taoisttemple.

《紅樓夢》中的故事。尤三姐是賈珍之妻尤氏的妹妹，她花容月貌，性格剛烈。賈珍玩膩了尤二姐，就串通賈璉打尤三姐的主意，卻被尤三姐狠狠地責罵一番。從此二人很所尤三姐，一心想快點把她嫁出去。尤三姐看中了曾來賈府唱過戲的柳湘蓮，姐姐告訴她湘蓮現在不在京城。尤三姐說：“他一年不回我等一年，十年不歸我等十年，人死了，我情願剃頭當尼姑去。”賈璉離京辦事，遇上柳湘蓮，說了尤三姐的事，湘蓮應允，並取“鴛鴦劍”作聘禮，轉交給尤三姐。三姐覺得終身有靠，將劍掛在牀頭，每天看幾次。數月後，湘蓮回京，得知尤三姐是天下無雙的美人，他認爲寧府的人品行不端，三姐和我素不相識，爲何鍾情於我，對尤三姐產生了懷疑，便假稱姑媽已給定婚，想要回寶劍。尤三姐猜想湘蓮一定是把自己當成下流女子了，心如刀絞，於是，摘下寶劍，當着湘蓮的面自刎以表清白。湘蓮後悔，撫屍大哭離去，後出家當道士去了。
