讓學生在高二年級打好學科基礎並有所發展是極其重要的。下列目標應在本學期內達高二到：鞏固、擴大基礎知識;培養口頭和書面初步運用英語進行交際的能力，側重培養閱讀能力;發展智力，培養自學能力。具體來說：
1.加強學的研究，充分發揮學的主動性
只有當教與學形成了合力，教學才能取得最佳的效果。因此，要幫助學生養成良好的學習習慣，指導他們掌握有效的學習方法，使他們樂學更善學。
2.強化三關訓練，夯實語言功底
詞彙、閱讀、語法是每個立志要學好英語的人必須過的三關，三者有聯繫但不能相互代替。
3.加強聽、說、讀、寫訓練，全面提高學生英語能力
儘管目前的高考以聽、寫爲主，但聽、說、讀、寫訓練是相輔相成、互相促進的，只有通過綜合訓練，才能真正全面提高學生的英語能力。根據高中教學的要求，要在進一步提高聽說能力的同時，側重培養閱讀能力，要切實加強泛讀訓練。在大量聽、讀，確保一定的輸入量的基礎上，再適當進行寫的訓練，寫的能力自然會提高.。
