MAKE UP

Meaning: if you make something up, you invent an untrue story or explanation, often in order to hide the truth. 編造,虛構

Grammar: This phrasal verb must have an object. The object can go between the verb and particle, or after the particle. If you want to use a pronoun, it must go between the verb and particle.

She made up an excuse - RIGHT
She made an excuse up - RIGHT
She made it up - RIGHT

She made up it - WRONG

Example sentence: Charlie didn't want to admit that he hadn't done his homework, so he made up a story about leaving it on the bus.

Invent: 捏造,虛構
We must invent an excuse for being late.

Fabricate
1. 製作,建築;尤指裝配,組合:
The finest crafts people fabricated this golden ring.

2. 捏造,僞造,編造(故事、理由、諾言等);創造:
to fabricate a signature and document

to fabricate an evidence

Manufacture
1. (大量)製造,加工[(+from/into)]

The company manufactures cars.
這家公司製造汽車。
2. 捏造,虛構(證據、藉口等)
Who manufactured the rumor?
是誰編造這種謠言的?
3. 粗製濫造(文藝作品等)

Come up with
1. 趕上

We came up with a group of tourists.
我們趕上了一羣旅遊者。
2. (針對問題等)想出;提供
He came up with good ideas for the product promotion.

He could not come up with a proper answer.
他想不出一個合適的回答。
3. 準備好(錢等)
