大家好，歡迎來到小強英語。今天我們來看一個習語——burn the candle at both ends. Burn是燒的意思，candle是蠟燭的意思，一隻蠟燭兩頭燒，可想而知，很快就會耗盡。所以，burn the candle at both ends這個習慣用語的意思就是過分地消耗精力或是財產。現在由於就業壓力大，很多在校大學生會做很多的事情，這樣就難免過分消耗精力。我們來聽一下這位家長的擔憂：

I'm worried about my daughter. In addition to her heavy class load, she's been holding down a part-time job and training to run a marathon. Next week she's got final exams, which she's been staying up late to study for. If she keeps burning the candle at both ends, she's bound to get herself sick.

女兒很讓我擔心。除了繁重的課業以外，她還要出去打工，同時爲參加馬拉松進行訓練。下星期是期末考試，她每天都睡得很晚，複習功課，如果她一直這樣下去，一定會累病的。
