Indemnity

n. 賠償；補償（金）

Indemnity（賠償） = in-（不，非）+ -demn（損傷/傷害，詞源同damage）+ ity。Indemnity來自拉丁語indemnis（未損傷的，未傷害的），引申詞義爲賠償，補償。同近義詞有compensation，offset。

Indemnity常見的習慣用語有claim indemnity索賠、letter of indemnity 損害補償保證書、insurance indemnity保險賠償金、contract of indemnity賠償契約、indemnity clause彌償損失條款、principle of indemnity損失補償原則。

損失補償原則（principle of indemnity）是指保險事故（insurance accident）造成保險標毀損，被保險人（the insured）遭受了經濟損失，保險公司（insurance company）應當承擔補償損失的責任。理賠金額（claim amount）應當協商一致，合理且充分補償，這個原則主要是爲了維護保險雙方的利益，防止道德風險（moral hazard）的發生。
